The Artbay Story

Artbay was born as a dream in the early hours one morning, early 2004, when the logo was scribbled down, using black eyeliner & red lipstick!
Artbay Ltd was incorporated in August 2004.
Initially, we called our home, "The Arthouse"
and worked from home as art consultants, sourcing artwork on a “project by project’ basis for clients, who were a steady base of interior designers, developers and hotel groups.
We've assisted our clients in various projects, such as sourcing artwork to a clients' brief, put together private art collections for homes, and arranged special one-off commissions by some of New Zealand’s top artists.

On July 15th July 2009, our business expanded to become “Artbay Gallery” and we opened our sparkling glass sliding doors, to our retail space, which is now one of Queenstown’s best known art galleries.

As well as our hosting our own exhibitions, we've curated the art shows at the renowned Amisfield Winery & Saffron Restaurant, for the past 5 years, and continue to do so.

Our vision, as a gallery, is to offer not only modern contemporary art for sale, but offering our space as a friendly cultural Art destination, with an overall vision of offering our guests an ‘art experience’. Of the many Queenstown Galleries, we hope to stand out from the crowd.

Enjoy !

Warm wishes

Director

Creating the Gallery

Artbay Gallery appropriately started life as a “blank canvas". As soon as we saw the space available in the new Mountaineer building, our vision as to how it would become a beautiful Queenstown gallery was clear. Take a look at our slide show to see how we constructed the gallery space to what it is today.

Vision, hours of work and creativity went into making the Gallery space it is today. The ambiance exudes an exciting combination of modern contemporary and semi industrial chic feel, in design. The practical flow through was enhanced by introducing Fung shui principles, and the hanging walls, we invented and made ourselves, so they can be moved around to suit the artwork, and stage exhibitions to their best.

Artbay Delivery Vehicle

Artbay delivery vehicle, Doris!
Meet Doris, our 1950 Daimler Consort

We use Doris to deliver artwork to our clients homes. We purchased her in August 2010, when she underwent a loving restoration, including a new paint job, new upholstery for seats and doors, new carpet, an engine overhaul, and an overall chrome brush and polish. Thanks to Pedro's speedy work, she was back on the road in October 2010.
She's been affectionately named Doris, after Doris Lusk, a late famous New Zealand contemporary artist.

You'll see Doris driving around Queenstown most days, or she'll be parked in the limelight somewhere, taking a well earned rest.

Like each piece of our artwork is unique, so is she!
