Award winning contemporary New Zealand painter, Hope Gibbons has works held in private collections here and throughout the world. In her recent award winning “Pollock inspired works” , the boundaries of traditional painting practice and techniques are pushed to the limits. In her new series, being shown for the first time at Artbay Gallery, Hope continues to exploit the use of paint, stains, rust, inks, leaf, metallics and varnish.
Described by the judges recently as “layers of depth, line-drawing, colour and tone, in turn, creates the instability of space. The work takes you away from a world of realism and into a visual joy of light.”
