The paintings of mixed media artist Alison Coulthurst, continue to be highly sought after by art collectors throughout the world. Building upon her huge success in Sydney, Alison's work has been exhibited in England, South Africa, New Zealand, the United Arab Emirates, Italy, France and Australia.
Born in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe, Alison studied fine arts and graphic design in Capetown and Durban in South Africa, before moving to England in the 1980s. By 1987, Alison was at the peak of her graphic design career in a top-tier London advertising agency. With these foundations her unique style took hold and radiates throughout her work to this present day.
A full-time professional artist since 2001, Alison has received many major commissions and in 2005 was selected as one of 39 global artists to collaborate on an art initiative with Nobel Prise winner Nelson Mandela. This, together with a solo exhibition at the Australian Fashion Week, and winning the People’s Choice award with her portrait of Sting at the annual "Jeans for Genes" charity event have been real highlights in Alison's career. Her works explore many techniques, including sgraffito and application by hand, resulting in multiple rich layers displayed in each artwork.
Ali has recently returned to her Byron Bay studio after living and painting in Europe where she had two successful solo exhibitions in Bordeaux and Rome. Excited and inspired by her travel experiences she continues to paint with freshness and enthusiasm.
