Since returning home to New Zealand after seven years travelling the world as an illustrator, teacher, photographer and painter, exhibiting extensively in both Tokyo and London, Deirdre has enjoyed rapid and remarkable success. Major awards and extensive media coverage, and a growing list of patrons have confirmed Deidre as a significant painter.
Her magnified, imposing and beautifully crafted portraits are traffic stoppers wherever they are shown.
She is a keen printmaker and detailed drawer, but it is the large portraits of infamous characters that leave the most impact.
Deidre was born in rural Southland, New Zealand. After gaining ‘Fine Arts’ and Dip Teaching in Dunedin, she worked as an art and photography teacher in New Zealand for three years. After many years of travel and and experiences she is happy to make Central Otago home and now paints full time from her private studio in Cromwell.
