Who and what inspires your artwork?
Inspiration is truly everywhere! With nearly two decades of experience, I’ve developed an eye that constantly seeks out ideas and blends them into my work in a uniquely personal way.
Some of my most significant influences include Karen Appel, Basquiat, De Kooning, Pablo Picasso, and George Condo. I draw inspiration from abstract expressionism, neo-expressionism, and more recently, abstract figurative art.
What captures the hearts of collectors about your work?
My artworks strive to convey an authentic narrative of raw human emotion, highlighting the connection between childhood memories and the mental and emotional challenges we face in life.
Collectors often feel a personal connection, embracing the honesty within each piece as if the characters reflect their own experiences. I also love weaving positive, fun, and heartfelt messages into my art.
Tell us more about your creative process
My creative journey is an exhilarating adventure that begins within my thoughts. Sparks of inspiration ignite, and when I feel that irresistible pull towards the canvas—the magic begins!
Some days I’m lost in passionate brushstrokes, pouring my heart into every detail. Other days, I step back, letting the work breathe and evolve. It’s an emotional, electrifying process that leaves me eager for the next masterpiece. Of course, I have my off days too—but that’s all part of creating.
Your success as an artist and career highlights
One of my biggest career highlights was seeing my artwork Internal Saboteur showcased in the Auckland War Memorial Museum—an unforgettable moment of pride. Another was the opening of my previous exhibition at Artbay Gallery, which was both thrilling and humbling.
The ongoing success since then is a testament to the dedication of the gallery and its incredible team.
What can we expect from this upcoming exhibition?
A dazzling, bold, and unapologetic collection! Creating another exhibition for Artbay’s collectors has been an absolute privilege.
While keeping the essence of my previous collection, I’ve evolved the figures into striking, recognizable forms bursting with energy. These works embody a “bigger than life” feeling, with each character enhancing the storytelling aspect of the art. The addition of resin infuses an exciting new dynamic, taking the pieces to another level.
