Michael Moore was born in the Wairarapa and grew up observing the land, something he has never stopped doing.
The first four years of his life were spent in a tiny rural settlement deep in the hills east of Masterton. These early years remain vivid in his memory and continue to shape his perception and approach to painting today.
Michael describes his process as a visual diary, with his paintings often forming part of sequential series. He works with both oil and acrylic paints, each offering different qualities that he applies depending on the subject matter.
Since becoming a full-time painter in 1990, Michael has exhibited regularly at leading galleries throughout New Zealand. His work is held in several public collections including the NZ Parliamentary Collection, Waikato Museum of Art & History, and Auckland University of Technology, as well as in numerous private and corporate collections across New Zealand and overseas.
Deeply and spiritually connected to Aotearoa New Zealand, Michael's work centres on the land, its energy, presence, and ever-changing nature as a contemporary painter of the New Zealand landscape.
