Nora Adame

Nora Adame, born in Tampico, Tamaulipas, in 1970 and based in Puebla since 1991, is a highly respected Mexican visual artist, designer, and entrepreneur. With a studio practice that spans more than two decades, she is known for her bold explorations of identity, pop iconography, and surface texture — all underpinned by a rigorous conceptual vision and technical mastery.

Adame’s work often revisits iconic feminine figures and cultural symbols, reimagining them in vibrant color and layered compositions. But what truly distinguishes her pieces is the final touch: she pours tinted liquid glass and resin over her work, letting the glossy medium run, drip, and pool organically across edges. This controlled yet spontaneous cascade imbues each piece with sculptural depth and a luminous, fluid finish, transforming flat imagery into a living, tactile surface.

In addition to her resin technique, Adame integrates handmade three-dimensional embellishments that extend beyond the canvas. These additions — often shaped as butterflies, geometric forms, or ornamental motifs — hover or emerge above the surface, creating delicate, sculptural accents that enhance the visual narrative and dimensionality of her pieces.

Over her career, Adame has earned significant recognition. She exhibited at the Florence International Biennale in Italy. She has won awards such as at the VI Encuentro Estatal de Arte Contemporáneo in Puebla. Her work received an honorable mention at the Ibero-American Prize Cortés de Cádiz in Spain. She also had her work selected for the XI Bienal del Museo Rufino Tamayo in Mexico City.

Beyond her studio, Adame is a force in arts entrepreneurship. In 2012 she co-founded Estudio NAO with fellow artist Alejandro Osorio, and in 2014 helped launch Galería Mercado Negro, a contemporary art space dedicated to exhibition, sales, and collector education. Her gallery has become a vital platform in Puebla’s contemporary art scene. Through this blend of artistic innovation, technical experimentation, and institutional leadership, Nora Adame stands as a highly-regarded, internationally engaged figure in contemporary Mexican art.
